Located in the village of Barca d'Alva, near the breath-taking Historical Village of Castelo Rodrigo, the Stargazing Centre has opened its doors to the public in 2017.

The stars, the planets and the milky way have always cast a spell on Mankind. The sky of the Natural Park of Douro Internacional is a true gem. Some questions arise when we are dealing with this fascinating theme. Do we continue to gaze at the sky the same way our grandfathers did? Why is it so important to protect the natural state of the dark skies? Does wine-growing benefit from a dark sky? In fact, dark sky regions have often good wines, since the flora, the fauna and the bugs of the vineyards actually benefit from the protected rhythms of light and darkness.

"A glass of wine under the stars" is an exciting event promoted by the Stargazing Centre - Open Science Hub of the Municipality of Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo - Guarda district that brings the community together, sparking interest and curiosity on such an endlessly fascinating theme!
