The pandemic has taught us that every day is a fresh (and refreshing) start. The cultural sector has suffered tremendously all over the globe as a direct consequence of the pandemic. Theatres, cinemas and cultural venues had closed in the gloomy days of the pandemic and reopened its doors in safety, hoping that the audiences would come back, eager to watch theatre plays, concerts and all sorts of art performances. Actors, performers, musicians, backstage staff, producers, directors and many other professionals of the cultural sector have lived days of uncertainty. And in the worst phase of the pandemic we have all watched moving concerts that took place on the terraces, when part of the world was in lock-down. Music played a major role during the early days of the pandemic, bringing people together, enhancing a sense of belonging, a pray for hope.
We hope that 2022 means a turning point to the cultural universe. Therefore, this edition pays a tribute to the stages of Center of Portugal and to the inspiring projects that took place in those iconic places. A tribute to the enduring struggle of all the people who firmly believe that culture is the engine of a country, the portrait of its identity. This is a tribute to all the people who simply don't give up. Because there are better days ahead. The doors are opened.
