The discovery back in 1993 of the biggest dinosaur nest in the world in Paimogo quarry, in Lourinhã beach, near Peniche, has triggered a true revolution. Dinosaurs became the main characters and the unique Dino Parque Lourinhã has opened its doors, attracting many visitors to the charming coastal village of Lourinhã.
This outdoor museum is placed upon an area of 10 hectares, covering 4 tracks of the most important epochs in the History of the Earth: the end of the Paleozoic, the Triassic, the Jurassic and the Cretaceous. Throughout these tracks, visitors can see more than 120 models of dinosaurs and other animals on the real scale. The descriptions of dinosaurs are available in 4 languages. We recommend the purchase of the Dino Parque guide, an enlightening book full of scientific insights and interesting infos on the dinosaur world.
Beside the outdoor tracks, in entrance and the central building of the Dino Parque can be visited the exhibition of the Museu da Lourinhã, with its fantastic palaeontological collection . In the laboratory, it is also possible to observe in real time the preparation of fossils. The park also offers an area of activities, where visitors can experience some palaeontology skills. There is also a restaurant within the premises.
Visiting Dino Parque Lourinhã is engaging in an incredible time travel, where both parents and children figure out how life would be on planet Earth with those "little ones"!
