Pousada de Viseu

Located in the former São Teotónio Hospital—one of the oldest hospitals in the city, opened in 1842— Pousada de Viseu offers a beautiful view of the historic downtown area. This former hospital was completely rebuilt and refurbished by renowned architect Gonçalo Byrne in 2009.

The Pousada de Viseu has 84 rooms, including 18 connecting rooms and 8 suites. During your stay you can enjoy the spa, schedule massage and treatment sessions, and use the sauna, the hot tub, the gym and the Turkish bath or the heated indoor pool. For the young, the Pousada de Viseu offers, in summer, the Kids Club, as well as a spectacular outdoor pool overlooking the historic center of the beautiful city of Viseu.

The Pousada also offers a renowned restaurant, a bar, a very original wine bar, a cigar lounge and conference rooms.

Montebelo Palácio dos Melos Viseu Historic Hotel

Occupying a building of great architectural importance and historical and cultural value in Viseu historic center, Montebelo Palácio dos Melos Viseu Historic Hotel was built into the Porta do Soar de Cima, one of the seven gates of the old Aphonsine city wall and combines subtle design with aesthetic simplicity while also prioritising comfort.

The deluxe and superior rooms are in the main building, while the standard rooms are in the wing next to the palace. Viseu Ryokan

The world is truly a global village and Viseu has now a new concept of accommodation, inspired by the Japanese "ryokan" that in the past accommodated samurais, traders and noblemen.

When arriving at a Ryokan the differences from western hotels are evident. Guests are awaited by a friendly receptionist who provides a pair of typical slippers to circulate in the common areas of the accommodation.

In the rooms, nothing is left to chance and the Japanese atmosphere of leisure and relaxation is guaranteed through amenities such as tatami flooring or comfortable futons. A yukata is also waiting for you – the traditional Japanese outfit that resembles a kimono – and which you can wear during your stay, not only inside your room but also in the common areas, such as the SPA.

Inspired by the traditional Onsen – Japanese thermal baths – at the Viseu Ryokan you can find a sauna, jacuzzi and massage service.

This is the first ryokan to open its doors in Portugal and the first outside Japan. This is the case to say "arigato"!
