The Botanical Garden of the University of Coimbra is definitely one of the most iconic gardens in Portugal. A magical place within this true paradise at the heart of the historical city of Coimbra.

Quinta das Lágrimas

Created to become a true herbal museum, the gardens at Quinta das Lágrimas gather species from all over the world. Their designer, Miguel Osório Cabral de Castro, took the advantage of being a friend of the Coimbra University Botanical Garden director to provide more variety to this outside space which became one of the most important places at Quinta das Lágrimas.

Mondego Green Park

The river which saw the creation of the city of Coimbra was always an important part of its inhabitants’ lives. The beauty of its banks has inspired many generations of students and poets, the fury of the waters, refreshing the fertile meadows of the valley or flooding even the most important monuments, leaves no one unaffected. Located on the right bank of the Mondego, with an area of approximately 400.000 m2, Mondego Green Park has a large outdoor café area, built upon a wooden platform above the river.
