Cargaleiro Museum

Beautifully located at the heart of Castelo Branco, Cargaleiro Museum is devoted to the genius of one the most outstanding Portuguese contemporary artists.

Housed in the charming manor house Solar dos Cavaleiros, Cargaleiro Museum is a major attraction of the city. The museum consists of two buildings: an 18th century manor house that includes the works of Cargaleiro, the collector, and a new 3-storey building that presents the works of Cargaleiro, the artist.

Manuel Cargaleiro (1927 - ), was born in the region in Castelo Branco, namely in Vila Velha de Ródão. He soon proved to be a creative genius of painting and ceramics. His works can be seen in Portugal and in France. The mission of the Museu Cargaleiro is to study, inventory, conserve, interpret, exhibit and disseminate the collection of Manuel Cargaleiro Foundation.

A must-see spot of this enchanting city that pays homage to a living legend of Portuguese culture !
