Quinta Madre de Água is the perfect refuge for discovering one of the most typical regions, Serra da Estrela. Situated 5 minutes away from Gouveia, near the village of Vinhó, this project began in 2007, when the owners decided to return to origins and to develop a sustainable concept that values the respect for locals, their arts and traditions, as well as the preservation of nature.
This project is being carried out in 4 estates (“quintas”) in the region of Gouveia in a area of 60 hectares, including; a 10 room charm hotel, where clients are welcomed in a refined familiar ambience; a cheese-making workshop that produces one of the best cheeses in the world, Serra da Estrela soft cheese; a stud farm that bets on Lusitano horse breed, teaching and dressage art and a wine cellar to be built.
Its 16 hectares of vineyards have been awarded many prizes as the best ones in Dão wine region, planted at a height of 600 m, with a micro-climate that influences the excellence of the wines. The estate has currently 500 “bordaleira” breed sheep and 150 goats.
