Providing "the" view over the stunning Areia Branca beach, in Lourinhã, near Peniche, restaurant Alta was founded by the Marteleira sisters, Julie, the Chef, and Jenny, born and raised in Toronto. Traditional Portuguese cuisine with an international twist, along with an unbeatable setting.
These sisters with Portuguese origins used to spend Summer time in the jaw-dropping Areia Branca beach, a spot of utter natural beauty. In 2023, they decided to move to Portugal and to open a restaurant that pays homage to the deeply diversified essence of Portuguese gastronomy, while integrating influences of international cuisines. Julie Marteleira, the Chef, was not surprisingly influenced by the city of Toronto, a true melting pot of cultures and flavours.
Among the most popular specialities, the lobster salad with an Asian twist is truly unmissable, as well as stuffed crab, seafood and fish rice and other seafood delights, but also pork belly with chorizo, orange jam, sprouts and white beans, roasted chicken with chilli sauce and matured rib-eye steak.
The main room has a seating capacity of 50 persons, the terrace can seat 20 persons and there is also a room designed for private events with capacity of 16 persons. According to the Marteleira sisters, there is no such thing as a bad table at Alta Restaurant! Every table offers the best of views!
