Founded on June 30th 1884, Bordallo Pinheiro Factory continues to embody the pioneering vision of the prestigious ceramist Raphael Bordallo Pinheiro, a genius ahead of his time. Mostly led by women, this factory is the epicentre of colourful creations and daring decor and tableware articles. From Caldas da Rainha to the world !

Bordallo Pinheiro Factory of Artistic Earthenware was created with the purpose of bringing a new life to the traditional arts of ceramics, crossing them with the modernity of many styles that foretell the future, but, above all, with the originality of its creator, Rafael Bordallo Pinheiro. The artistic pieces are, until today, inseparable from the popular imagination, as well as a cultural references of universal nature.

The original moulds used by Raphael Bordallo Pinheiro - the "madres" - continue to be employed in the factory and great part of the impressive pieces are still handmade. A work mostly made by women that requires a lot of skills, patience and dedication.

Launched in 2020, the collection designed by Claudia Schiffer named Cloudy Butterflies is a true success! The most popular collections in Portugal are definitely the cabbage, the banana of Madeira and the swallow collection. Not to mention the animals depicted by Bordallo Pinheiro: cats, frogs, lobsters, monkeys or snakes. These creations became part of the Portuguese soul.

By still using most of the centuries-old techniques in the reproduction of models, Bordallo Pinheiro Factory of Artistic Earthenware continues to recover an irreplaceable legacy. At the same time, and animated by the same pioneering spirit, it is an innovative company, creating contemporary products and enhancing its recognition in the foreign markets.

Bordallo Pinheiro operates in a factory located in the inviting city of Caldas da Rainha, where the company’s headquarters are located, and has also an office in Lisbon.
