At the centre of the square – Largo da Devesa – there is a big lake equipped with atomizers that soothe the intense summer heat. Several tree species have invaded the square, creating places of shadow, colour, and movement.
The design of the Square is the work of Josep Lluís Mateo, an architect of Barcelona. Devesa square was entirely adopted by the inhabitants of the city. Both the shops and the cafés reveal the amusing occupation of the square upon a great underground parking. The modern spacious Municipal Library is located a bit further back of this wide platform. This is an excellent location that serves as a functional formal bridge between the former barracks and the belvedere Nossa Senhora da Piedade.
