Opened in 1851, the iconic Vista Alegre Theatre was created to entertain the working community of Vista Alegre.
For decades this was the stage of theatre plays, balls and concerts performed by the factory's philharmonic. In 1905 and also in 1970 Vista Alegre Theatre was refurbished and it became very similar to its current design. Although it was closed for many years, in 1998 it was reopened and renovated.
Nowadays this stunning theatre is explored by the cultural project 23 Milhas of the Ílhavo Municipality. This pioneering cultural project promotes artistic creation in several areas, as well as the relationship between the artists and the local community. Vista Alegre Theatre is, currently, the Art Lab with a special focus on experimental creations, classical and contemporary works, mainly on Autumn and Winter seasons, because of its comfy ambiance.
Vista Alegre Theatre boasts an Auditorium with capacity for 172 persons, a multipurpose room, a rehearsal room, a training room and a studio unit.
