Edition 32 - Côa Valley
11.10.2021 • 17.10.2021
Rewilding Côa Valley
The pandemic has changed the way we travel, as well as the way we perceive the planet. Travellers are now more conscious of the importance of reducing their ecological footprint, of travelling in a more balanced way, while choosing the accommodations that have adopted the best environmental practices. The new normal is indeed a return to nature, away from the crowded city centres. Away from the vertigo of speed. Center of Portugal is the place to be, since it offers many green destinations, wonderful mountains, peaceful villages with its warm-hearted inhabitants, conscious accommodations guided by thoughtful sustainable practices and inspiring natural landscapes. Sustainability leading the way in the world. Center of Portugal is no exception.
Travelling by solar-electric boat
There's a new sustainable way to discover the breath-taking region of Côa Valley: by solar-electric powered boat. Organised by the Côa Museum, the trip starts in Canada do Inferno, across the dazzling natural landscape of Côa River. This trip does not include a visit to the rock art engravings, though.
Casa no Castanheiro
Beautifully located between the Historical Villages of Trancoso and Marialva with a stunning view over Marofa Mountain, Casa no Castanheiro is the perfect refuge at the heart of a dazzling landscape, as well as a great example of a sustainable accommodation. Designed by prestigious Portuguese architect João Mendes Ribeiro, Casa no Castanheiro was nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Award 2022.
Be & See in nature
This project was born from the deep passion for birds and nature. Be & See in nature is a 1-bedroom house, located at the heart of a dazzling natural landscape classified by BirdLife International as Important Bird Area. Here visitors can observe the following bird species: purple heron, flamingo, common buzzard and kingfisher.
Nature & Outdoors
Berlengas
Berlenga, Estelas and surrounding islands were classified Berlenga Natural Reserve on September 3rd 1981. Located 5,7 miles away from Cape Carvoeiro, the archipelago of Berlengas consists of 3 island groups: Berlenga Grande, and nearby reefs, Estelas and Farilhões-Forcadas, all of them geologically different.
