The Schist Villages have been certified by the Starlight Foundation as an International Starlight Tourism Destination thanks to the Dark Sky Schist Villages project. Piornos Belvedere
Opened in 2022, Piornos Belvedere is located at the epicentre of a dazzling landscape of glacial valleys in Serra da Estrela. This 1630 meters-high belvedere is a must-see attraction of the region of Covilhã. "Piorno" is the common name given to the plants commonly known as broom.

Stargazing in International Águeda River
International Águeda River is born in Spain, on the Spanish flank of Serra das Mesas. It flows along 130 km, and its last 25 km set the natural frontier between the two Iberian countries. It flows into the Douro at Barca d'Alva.
