The protected designation of origin Aguardente DOC Lourinhã is actually the only demarcated region in Portugal for the production of brandy ("aguardente"). In the European Union there are only 3 demarcated brandy-producing regions, namely: Lourinhã and the French regions Cognac and Armagnac.
