Surfing in Center of Portugal!

The coastline of Center of Portugal is 279 km long with the best surf spots in Europe.

During Summer time, smaller boards are appropriate for surfing waves, sometimes smaller and softer. During winter days, bigger boards are an essential condition for surfing more powerful waves or even guns for surfing giant waves.

Praia da Barra

Very close to Aveiro, Barra beach is quite wide and it is protected by a pontoon in the north. It is a suitable beach for all kind of sports with several peaks along the beach.

Figueira da Foz

Still unknown for many surfers around the globe, Figueira da Foz is nevertheless paving its way as a sunny, welcoming and very affordable surf destination. Did you know that Figueira da Foz is famous for its mile-long hand breaks?

Buarcos

Buarcos is home to three different spots, Tamagueira, a hollow right-hand point break, Teimoso, one of the longest waves in Portugal, and Mina, a fun reef break section that breaks on bigger days.

Cabedelo

The most well known spot in Figueira da Foz, it was the main site for the first ever championship tour event in Portugal. Home to some long right-handers, Cabedelo is also a very consistent and fun spot to surf.

Molhe Norte & 1º Molhe

One of them is compared to “The Edge” in California and the other one is just another fun and consistent beach break. Find out which is which…

Murtinheira

One of the very few spots that offers rights and lefts, a fun beach break that works well when there’s less swell.

São Pedro de Moel

It is one of the most picturesque beaches of the Portuguese coast, nestled among the houses amidst the pinewood of Leiria. Protected by the North wind, at the end of Summer is absolutely glorious.

Nazaré - XXL Biggest Wave Award

And Nazaré continues to have the biggest wave in the world. The wave was 24,38 meters-high and it was surfed on November 8th 2017 by the Brazilian surfer Rodrigo Kôxa. A truly historical swell !

Peniche

Recognised as the best and most consistent place to surf in Portugal, the peninsula of Peniche offers a coast facing north and south. Excellent daily conditions, regardless of the swell and the direction of the wind.

In the peninsula of Peniche there is always a spot where the wind is off-shore, creating perfect waves. Along 15 km of coastline you will find more than 20 surf spots for every kind of surfer, from beginners to advanced practitioners.

Praia do Baleal Norte/Lagido

Widely known among surfers, this beach is famous for its angry sea. Offering a very long sand area, this is one of the most beautiful beaches of Peniche coast. It was blue flag beach and good support facilities. If you have the chance, don’t miss the amazing sunset.

Praia do Medão / Supertubos

Considered one of the best for surfing and bodyboarding, both nationally and internationally, Praia de Medão is known for its waves in a perfect and tubular way, which is why it is also called Super Tubes. The crests of the waves are so long that they create empty spaces, true tubes, that attract practitioners of these modalities from all parts of the world, throughout the whole year. Praia dos Supertubos is the scene of the most prestigious national and international competitions in wave sports.

Santa Cruz

A heavenly place celebrating the Waves, celebrating the Ocean! Remote, but only an hour away from Lisbon, Santa Cruz greets the Atlantic with its white sands and wild cliffs. Kilometres of waves carve Santa Cruz coast and connect it with two Portuguese surf meccas – Ericeira and Peniche (25 minutes). In Santa Cruz area there are over five world tour surf contests giving professionals from the worlds best surfers in all ages a chance to compete in world class waves.
